Law enforcement officials say they have found the body of Cullen Finnerty, a former Division II national champion quarterback from Grand Valley State. Finnerty went missing during a fishing trip in the Michigan woods.

Robert Hilts, the Lake County Sheriff, told local media that the body was recovered deep in the woods under a tree and that there is no visible wound or apparent cause of death. Police do not believe foul play was involved.

Finnerty, who led Grand Valley State to Division II national titles in 2003, 2005 and 2006, went missing Sunday while fishing near the Baldwin River, close to where his family owns a cottage.

Family members feared the worst after they didn’t hear from him Monday or Tuesday. Finnerty apparently made a strange phone call to a family member on Sunday that made his relatives worry that he had suffered some type of mental breakdown.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Finnerty’s family and friends.
